A US congressional committee is investigating four venture capital firms for their investment in Chinese technology companies, the latest sign of Washington’s increasing scrutiny of American funds suspected of helping develop sensitive industries in China.
Investments by GGV Capital, GSR Ventures, Walden International and Qualcomm Ventures are being probed by the House select committee on China, led by Wisconsin Republican Michael Gallagher.GGV declined to comment on Wednesday night. The long-awaited release of director Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring last Friday will be followed by the second film, The Two Towers, screening from April 23. Both will play in remastered 4K ultra high definition at selected cinemas.

There are claims that a ban on commercial imports of kava is fuelling a sharp rise in violence and anti-social behaviour among Australia's Pacific island communities, as young people take to drink and drugs instead.
